lntangible Cultural Heritage (ICH)

Intangible cultural heritage is the practices, expressions, knowledge and skills that communities, groups and sometimes. individuals recognise as part of their cultural heritage. Also called living cultural heritage, it is usually expressed in one of the following forms: oral traditions; performing arts; social practices, rituals and festive events; knowledge and practices concerning nature and the universe; and traditional craftsmanship.

ICH Objectives

 1. To give awareness to Arts and Culture Officers, Traditional leadership and Communities to apply for international assistance and cooperation for implementation of the 2003
Convention.

2. To promote the involvement of local communities in implementation of ICH programmes as a pillar of sustainable development.

3. To build capacity of officers, traditional leaders and communities to replicate the

awareness raising programme in their respective communities.

4. To increase the capacities of stakeholders to undertake community-based inventorying of elements.
